Israeli Police has said it detained 46 protestors on Monday as ultra-Orthodox Jews throughout Israel rallied against the arrest of four seminary students who dodged military service.

The police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said in Tel Aviv.

“The four students failed to report to a recruitment base and have been declared deserters by the military.

“The student arrests prompted hundreds of other ultra-Orthodox Jews to take to the streets in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv suburb,Port of Ashdod and elsewhere,’’ he said.

Rosenfeld said that the protesters blocked intersections by sitting down in the middle of roads, adding that one police officer was injured.

Report says young ultra-Orthodox men who refuse to serve in the Israeli military, a requirement for all Jewish Israeli citizens, has been a long-standing matter of contention in the country.
